What is Recycled Plastic Lumber?

It is an almost miraculous building material that is 100% environmentally friendly. Recycled Plastic Lumber is composed of recycled High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), which is the raw material derived from discarded plastic bottles such as 1 gallon milk jugs. In fact, 40 milk jugs can be used to make 1 pound of GREENWOOD™ Recycled Plastic Lumber. This prevents them from polluting our land fills, roads and oceans.

GREENWOOD™ RPL is also an extremely high quality building material, outpacing wood and other materials by far! It offers exceptional resistance to corrosive substances like oil, fuels, insects, fungi, salt spray and other stresses. GREENWOOD™ RPL is available in common lumber profiles and can be worked in much the same way as wood. It comes in many wood tones and colors including green, black, weathered wood, light gray, cedar, white and other colors upon request. This product is great for decking, porch flooring, docks, piers and fencing and offers planks, posts, rails, balusters, tongue and groove, groove and groove along with many specialty profiles.

The Best Benefit of GREENWOOD™ RPL?

It encourages Earth-Friendly building and helps your community and the world as a whole. Individual commitment to eco-practices harnesses individual responsibility to our planet based on an understanding of the serious threats to the environment and the potential consequences to our future generations.

Designing

Designing with plastic lumber, instead of wood, needs to be treated in a similar way to the difference in designing between steel and aluminum. With wood there are various trees giving different performance characteristics and with plastic lumber the composition mix can also change the properties. Some boards can have fiberglass strands mixed in to add strength or stiffness while another may be hollow to reduce weight. Unless you have design experience using plastic lumber, designing should be completed with the advice of an experienced user.
